Important: Knowledge Xpert has been moved to a free online wiki, http://www.toadworld.com/platforms/oracle/default.aspx. Toad components which use the desktop version of Knowledge Xpert have been updated to reference the online content.

Note: The DB Admin Module can be added to any Toad edition.

Integration with Toad for Oracle:

  • For Toad for Oracle users, SQL Optimizer now uses your Toad login script to set up your environment when you invoke SQL Optimizer using the Optimize Current SQL or the Scanning options in Toad.

Support for New Oracle Database 12c Features:

  • This release includes support for the Oracle Identity Column, invisible columns, and Oracle 12c pluggable databases (PDB) and container databases (CDB).

  • This release also includes support for the following SQL syntax: LATERAL, the enhanced Oracle native LEFT OUTER JOIN, the FETCH FIRST clause, and row pattern matching.
Quest Backup Reporter for Oracle

  • Import Toad Connections no longer fails under an Oracle Instance client.

  • The process to search for the NLS_LANG is faster.

  • The application no longer crashes when you click the backupset(raw) data tab.
Toad for MySQL

  • General: Toad has significantly improved performance and stability. When working with the databases that include a great number of objects, the possibility of getting OutOfMemory exception is minimized. The costly I/O operations are now processed faster.

  • Automation: This release of Toad for MySQL includes many new enhancements to Automation variables. Automation variables are now more flexible and easier to use. Toad for MySQL has expanded the number of places you can use variables in an Automation script.

  • Import: Now you can import data into identity columns. When trying to import data in the table containing identity columns, you will be prompted to turn on "Identity inserts" option in the Select Target page of the Data Import wizard to enable import.
Quest Installer

This release of Quest Installer allows you to check for a newer version of the Toad for Oracle suite during the installation process.

You can also enable a continuous automatic check that instructs Toad to notify you when there is an update to the suite.

Note: You will need a valid license key and the ability to log in to Quest Support to download an updated version of the product during installation.

System Requirements

Before installing your Toad Edition, ensure your system meets the following minimum hardware and software requirements.

Platform

1 GHz processor (Spotlight requires 1.2 GHz processor)
Memory

1 GB RAM required for 32-bit

2 GB RAM required for 64-bit

Note: The memory required may vary based on the following: 

  • Applications that are running on your system
  • Size and complexity of the database
  • Amount of database activity
  • Number of concurrent users accessing the database

Note: You must use the 32-bit version of Toad with the 32-bit Oracle client, and the 64-bit version of Toad with the 64-bit Oracle client.

Database Server

Oracle 8.0.6; 8.1.7; 9i; 9i R2; 10g; 10g R2; 11g, 11g R2, 12c.

Toad has been tested on Oracle Exadata 2.0 running Oracle database 11g R2.

Important: It is recommended that your client version be of the same release (or later) as your database server. This is an Oracle recommendation to prevent performance issues.

Exceptions:

  • SQL Optimizer—Requires 8.1.7 or later
  • Code Tester—Requires 9.2.0.6 or later
  • Spotlight—Requires 9.2.0.4 or later and SQL*Net 3.5 or later
  • Toad Data Modeler —Requires 9i or later
  • Toad for MySQL Freeware—Does not support Oracle. See its Release Notes for supported servers.
  • Quest Backup Reporter for Oracle—Requires 9i or later
Cloud Database Service

Oracle databases running on Amazon EC2

Exception:

  • Benchmark Factory—Has not been tested
IPv6 Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) is being adopted by the US Federal Government and industries around the world. In its most basic format, the new protocol uses 128-bit addresses instead of 32-bit addresses used by the current IPv4 to route packets over the Internet. Toad for Oracle features such as FTP access the Internet through third-party vendors such as /nSoftware's IP*Works that are IPv6 compliant. For access to Web sites by way of the Toad Online window, Toad simply invokes the user-defined or default Web browser.

Quest Backup Reporter for Oracle:

Quest Backup Reporter requires that the .NET framework version 2.0 through version 3.5 be installed.

SQL Optimizer:

For Windows 2003 or XP, Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4.0 is required.

Note: If you have only the .NET Framework 3.0 installed, you must also install .NET Framework 2.0 and the service pack or you must install .NET Framework 3.5 (which includes .NET 2.0 with Service Pack 1).

For Windows Vista, Windows 2008, and Windows 7, the necessary .NET Framework 2.0 files come preinstalled with the operating system.

Spolight on Oracle:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (Service Pack 1 or later)

Toad for MySQL Freeware:

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0

Note: The following conditions apply:

  • If you have the .NET Framework 4.0 installed, you must still install the .NET Framework 3.5 (Service Pack 1).
  • The .NET Framework Client Profile is not supported.
Additional Requirements

Spotlight requires:

  • Monitor capable of supporting a resolution of 1280x1024 or larger. (You should also set the display to use the 64K color palette [65536 colors].)
  • RAC edition supports up to 16 instances in a cluster, with a theoretical limit of 36 instances.

Virtualization Support

Before installing your Toad Edition, review the following for virtualization support:

Application Virtualization

Citrix XenApp 5.0 and 6.5 have been tested.

  • Exception: Benchmark Factory—Has not been tested
  • Exception: Spotlight—Spotlight has been tested for Citrix support on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Server (Service Pack 2) using the MetaFrame Presentation Server 5.0 and Citrix Presentation Server Clients 10.2
Desktop Virtualization (VDI)

Quest vWorkspace 7.0 has been tested.

Exception:

  • Toad for MySQL—Has not been tested
  • Benchmark Factory—Has not been tested
  • Spotlight—Has been tested on VMware Workstation
Server Virtualization

Oracle VM 3.1 has been tested.

Exception:

  • Benchmark Factory for Databases - Oracle Edition has not been tested.
  • Toad for MySQL has not been tested.
  • Spotlight—Limited testing has been done using Oracle VM 3.0.

VMware ESX Server 3.5 has been tested.

Exception:

  • Toad Data Modeler has been tested using VMware Server 3.0
  • Toad for MySQL—Has not been tested
  • Benchmark Factory—Has not been tested
  • Code Tester—Has not been tested

Note: Toad Editions may work in virtualization environments other than the ones listed.
