Welcome to Toad

With Toad, developers and database administrators can use a familiar, proven tool to manage databases. Toad empowers developers and administrators, of varying skill levels, to rapidly create and execute queries, automate database object management and develop SQL more efficiently.

New in This Release

Object Explorer

Use the Object Explorer to quickly locate objects of interest. You can also set a filter to further narrow the list of objects. Once you locate an object, you can use the right-click menu or toolbar to perform additional actions, and can double-click the object to open a pane that displays the columns, data, script, and other properties for that object.

To access this feature, select View | Object Explorer.

Process Browser

You can view session information, including the program name, status, executed command, physical IO, and  memory usage for any connection using the Process Browser. You can also kill a process or send a SQL statement to the Editor. To access this feature, select Tools | Monitor | Process Browser.

Session Browser

You can view session information, including the program name, status, executed command, physical IO, and  memory usage for any connection using the Session Browser. You can also kill a process or send a SQL statement to the Editor. This new Session Browser pulls data from MDA tables and provides more detailed information. To access this feature, select Tools | Monitor | Session Browser.

SQL Monitor

You can use SQL Monitor to view recently executed SQL for the entire server. To access this feature, select Tools | Monitor | SQL Monitor.

Error Log

The Error Log window monitors the monErrorLog MDA table and displays the most recent error messages from the Adaptive Server error log. To access this feature, select Tools | Monitor | Error Log Monitor.

Editor support for setuser command

Toads editor supports calling the setuser command before executing a SQL statement. This allows the database owner to impersonate another user. To access this feature, select Tools | Editor.

FTP Client

You can use the new File Transfer Protocol (FTP) utility to transfer scripts, reports, or other files from Toad. Toad supports unsecured (FTP) and secure (SFTP) file transfers. To open this utility, select View | FTP Connections from the menu.

Editor

The Editor includes additional features to increase your productivity. To access this feature, select Tools | Editor:

Query Builder

You can create complex queries visually using the Query Builder. You can also reverse engineer a query from the Editor, or add a Lookup Table to a column for easy filtering. To access this feature, select Tools | Object Explorer.

Automation

Automate and schedule repetitive tasks using Automation. For example, you can schedule long running queries to execute during off-hours, export the results to Excel, and email a report automatically from a single script. To access this feature, select Tools | Automation.

Object Search

Find database objects with ease using Object Search. To access this feature, select Tools | Object Explorer.

Database Diagram

You can easily identify relationships between database objects with Database Diagram. To access this feature, select Tools | Database Diagram.

Data Compare

Quickly compare data on one or more servers and synchronize it using Data Compare. To access this feature, right-click an object and select Data Compare.

Collaboration

View RSS and Twitter feeds, including Toad Community postings from within Toad using Collaboration. To access this window, select View | Collaboration. Once open, you can click any entry to open the related content.

In the Collaboration window, you can click  at the top of the window to compose a new entry. You can select the drop-down arrow beside the icon to select the feed to which you want to post.

To tweet, use the entry field at the bottom of the window. If you click an item in the list, a reply tweet is entered in the field. If the post contains a link, that link is opened in the Web Browser as well. To post a tweet, press ENTER or click . If you click , you can toggle whether you want to include a screen shot of Toad with your post (after posting, this option always reverts back to false).

Import/Export Wizards

Import data from a file, folder, or query using the Import Wizard. You can access this feature by selecting Tools | Import | Import Wizard.

Supported files types for the Import and Export wizard include CSV, Excel, text, and XML files:

Export data to CSV, Excel, Fixed Width, Delimited, XML, HTML, SQL Script, MS Access or a new table:

Script Tab for database devices

A script tab has been added for database devices.

View ASE SQL Interface file

If an ASE client is already installed and set up on your machine, Toad now looks for a SQL Interface file under %SYBASE%\ini\SQL.ini. If found, a drop-down populates and you can select a server to use with Toad.

Click to open the SQL Interface file and make changes if needed.

  1. Save the zip file to your computer.

  2. Right-click the saved zip file and select Properties

  3. Select the Unblock checkbox.
