Quest Installer
Version 4.3
Release Notes
September 07, 2010
These release notes cover changes to version 4.3 of the Quest Installer. They identify requirements, new features, and known issues for this release.
If you have purchased a new copy of Toad for Oracle, purchased an upgrade of
Toad for Oracle, or you are about to install a Trial version of Toad for Oracle,
you will have received a single license key which activates ALL the components
of Toad for Xpert Edition, Development Suite, and DBA Suite.
For a new
install - launch Toad for Oracle. You will be prompted to enter your license
key. If you purchased Toad Xpert Edition or any of the Toad Suites, all
components will be licensed from the same key.
For an upgrade to a different edition - launch Toad for Oracle. Select Help | Licensing and enter your new license key. Any new features will be enabled automatically, and any additional Toad Suite components will be licensed from the same key.
New Features in Quest Installer 4.3
This release of Quest Installer is a patch release, so there are no new features.
The Quest Installer can be used to extract the MSI files from within the bundled software.
If you cannot run the Quest Installer to deploy your software, and require the individual MSI installers to deploy silent installation, the Quest Installer can be launched in 'Extract' mode. This allows you to extract the various MSI files from within the bundled software.
The MSI files can then be run independently of the Quest Installer to deploy the various Quest applications.
Information on how to use the Quest Installer to extract the product MSI files, is available at: http://toadsoft.com/silentinstall/ToadforOracleEditions_Silent_Installation_Guide.pdfThe following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of the Quest Installer 4.3 release.

Defect ID |
Spotlight on Oracle Uninstall | Having upgraded to Spotlight on Oracle
7.1 from an earlier release of Spotlight on Oracle Standard Edition
(for example via Toad 10.0), if you uninstall Spotlight with the Quest
Installer, only part of Spotlight will be uninstalled. This is due
to RAC diagnostics and Predictive Diagnostics being added to Spotlight on
Oracle 7.1.

Knowledge Xpert Installation: If you use the <Back and Forward> buttons during a fresh installation into a Unicode location |
When
installing Knowledge Xpert,
if
you navigate to the 'Product Selection' page and then use
the <Back button to return to the *Install
location
page
(see Note below) and change the default directory to include a path
with Unicode character(s) then navigate Next> to the
product selection page again, you will be prompted to remove the Unicode
characters from the install location. This will cause the Knowledge Xpert
“Engine” to be installed incorrectly, causing an installation
error. If you do observe this behavior in the product selection page, either:
*Note: The 'Install Location' page is only visible when installing a Toad bundle onto a clean machine (i.e. no previous installations of Toad are on it). If you already have a previous version of Toad on the machine, this Unicode installation issue is not applicable to you. |

Installation: Windows 64-bit Operating System |
If you attempt to install an
application into the 'C:\Program Files' directory in a 64-bit operating
system, the OS/MSI converts it to 'C:\Program Files (x86)'. In
this case, the install location path in Quest Installer is different from the actual
location. This means that you will not be able to uninstall
the application using the Quest Installer.

Installation: Windows 64-bit Operating System - Oracle Client Issue |
The application supports a Windows 64-bit OS. However, changes will need to be made to the installation path during installation. The default install directory for 32-bit applications on a 64-bit OS includes parenthesis as shown in the following example: C:\Program Files(x86)\Quest Software\ According to Oracle Metalink, Doc ID 334528, there is a network error that results causing any path with a parenthesis to have an issue. Toad will have to be installed into a different folder without the parenthesis as shown in the following example: C:\Quest Software\

Installation: Performance issue related to digital signing |
If the signed installer is located on a network share, the entire
file needs to be transmitted (to the local machine) before installation
can commence. This is because the entire file needs to be read in order to
verify the digital signature.

Installation: The format of the file 'ToadStudioAdapter30.dll' is invalid |
The format of the file
'ToadStudioAdapter30.dll' is invalid. This is related to having
previously installed a version of 'Toad Studio' that included an old
version of QAIT.

Installation: Notification of insufficient space |
The Quest Installer provides a warning during installation if insufficient disk space exists for the installation.
